Location: We are seeking a dedicated Assistant Executive Steward for the Indiana Convention Center located in Indianapolis, IN.

Unit Description:

The Indiana Convention Center is located in the heart of the 12th largest city in the U.S., Indianapolis, Indiana. The state capital, Indianapolis ranks in the top 25 most visited cities in the country, with 18 million annual visitors. Indianapolis International Airport accommodates 150 flights each day, carrying 7.4 million yearly passengers to and from the Circle City.

Now one of the largest convention centers in America, the Indiana Convention Center is connected by skywalks to more hotel rooms than any other city in the nation. Also linked to the center is a four-story urban shopping mall, surrounded by more than 200 restaurants and clubs, well-known sports venues, and a 10-block state park that features top museums, green space and a convenient canal walk. It's the reason Sports Illustrated's Peter King calls Indianapolis "the most walkable downtown in America."


Principal Function:
The Assistant Executive Steward is a key member of the Culinary Operations team. They are responsible for assisting in the management of non-food production areas of the kitchen, including the dish room, storage areas, and other utility areas.

The Assistant Executive Steward helps oversee cleanliness and sanitation within the kitchen, assists with the maintenance of key equipment, and supports the inventory, storage, and distribution of the facility's supply of banqueting items such as silver, china, glassware, and linen.

This position supports the Executive Steward in leading the Stewarding Department staff and plays an important role in coordinating the flow of activity within the kitchen to ensure efficiency and quality in food preparation and service.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the Stewarding Department staff to ensure effective and efficient support of overall culinary and food & beverage operations.

  • Maintain health, safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards throughout Stewarding areas.

  • Support inventory control, storage, and distribution of supplies; assist in monitoring kitchen and Stewarding equipment for proper maintenance.

  • Actively participate in training, scheduling, and supervising Stewarding team members.

  • Contribute to the goal of 100% customer satisfaction by supporting culinary operations and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and service excellence.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Appropriate combination of education and experience to support on-the-job effectiveness.

  • Minimum of 2+ years of supervisory or lead experience in a food and beverage, hotel, or venue-based environment.

  • Previous stewarding or kitchen utility experience strongly preferred.

  • Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards; familiarity with Health Department requirements.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to effectively support a diverse team.

Other Requirements:

  • Able to work effectively and safely while subject to wet floors, temperature extremes, and excessive noise; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and maneuver in tightly-quartered environments.

  • Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
