Sodexo is seeking a Culinary Instructor 2 for the San Jose Job Corps located in San Jose, CA. Job Corps is a national, federally-funded program offering job training to qualified low income students between the ages of 16 to 25. The majority of students reside on campus 7 days per week. The San Jose Center provides training in Culinary Arts, including ServSafe Food Safety Manager certification training, so potential candidates should be a certified ServSafe instructor/proctor, or eligible to become certified. Prefer candidates with extensive practical knowledge of trade and teaching experience.

Key Duties:

  • Provides training to students on culinary skills, food preparation and operations to ensure account retention and fulfillment of contractual obligations. Plans training, including defining objectives, methods, and timetables to support lesson plan.
  • Accountable for the delivery of the highest level of quality instruction. Provides specific and meaningful feedback to students pertaining to strong and substandard performance.
  • Ensures students demonstrate an active customer hospitality orientation towards clients and have appropriate licenses and certifications, equipment, inventory and resources to meet learning objectives.
  • Stays current with industry knowledge and trends and provides learning opportunities for students.
  • Establishes a safe work environment for students by enforcing and providing training on safety, equipment maintenance and personal protective equipment requirements. Driving the Zero Harm mindset.

Is this opportunity right for you? We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Vocational Teaching Credential or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Pratical experience in subject/trade area with the ability to transfer topical knowledge to meet specific learning objectives.
  • Knowledge of methods needed to instill appropriate behavior as well as work and study habits in adolescent students; of housekeeping techniques and management; to read, comprehend, intrepret, communicate, and execute instructions or directives fluently in English.
  • A strong culinary background, with the demonstrated ability to stay current with new culinary trends
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to maintain the highest of culinary standards
  • Strong coaching and student development skills
  • Have a passion for food and innovation

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience – 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
