Sodexo is seeking a Food Operations Manager 1 of University Dining for Lake Superior State University, Sault Ste Marie, MI.

As the Food Operations Manager, you will have prior high-volume dining experience or similar, a proven track record with managing a large staff and implementing a variety of dining programs, and experience with food and physical safety programs. We are looking for an innovative leader who is comfortable with technology advances and learning new software programs.

The successful candidate will:

  • assist the GM with oversight of all food service day-to-day operations;
  • successfully coordinate all required tasks through subordinate managers, supervisors and frontline staff;
  • achieve company and client financial targets and goals;
  • develop and maintain client and customer relationships;
  • work hands-on with the team to ensure safety and sanitation (HACCP) compliance; developing and mentoring; engaging and fostering culture;
  • create a positive environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • food service management experience in a contract-services, healthcare, campus dining, or high-volume hospitality environment;
  • strong leadership skills and proven ability to foster culture, retain employees, and develop frontline staff;
  • culinary and/or food service experience and a strong background in safety and sanitation compliance;
  • proven ability to manage multiple priorities, demonstrated professional communication skills, and a passion for a high level of customer service;
  • be enthusiastic, eager to learn, and self-motivated;
  • a results-driven mindset that enjoys working hands-on to support the team;
  • proven ability to prioritize tasks and exhibit flexibility to take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Basic Education Requirement - Associate's Degree or equivalent experience
Basic Management Experience - 2 years
Basic Functional Experience – 1 year work experience in food or culinary services including restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services, mall food courts, etc.
